My first experience with Extra Storage (White Marsh, MD) has been extremely unsatisfactory. I initially obtained my storage unit over the phone, during which I was provided instructions on how and when to retrieve the unit key. Some of the information given was inaccurate; however, at the time, it did not seem significant enough to raise a concern. Approximately two months after leasing the unit, my rental fee was increased by $50 without any prior notification. When I contacted the facility to inquire about the increase, I was informed that a notice had been mailed to an address where I no longer reside. Despite explaining this, the site manager, Carla, stated that there was nothing she could do to accommodate me. It is important to note that this increase was not the result of late or missed payments, as my account was in good standing and all payments had been made on time. Seeking clarity, I researched customer reviews for this location and found instances where other customers who experienced rent increases were offered accommodations, such as transferring to a smaller unit at a reduced rate. Unfortunately, no such options were extended to me. Four months later, I received an additional rent increase of $30. This resulted in two rent increases within a six-month period. Once again, I was informed that nothing could be done to remove or reduce the increase, nor were any accommodations offered. In addition to the issues outlined above, I experienced a concerning incident while on the property. While I was inside my storage unit working on my computer with the unit door partially open, an individual walked by and attempted to open my unit door further without speaking to me or identifying themselves. I later learned that this individual was a facility employee. At no point was there any verbal communication, explanation, or professional acknowledgment of my presence, which made the situation uncomfortable and inappropriate. Following this incident, I sent a detailed email to the corporate office describing what occurred and offering feedback on how the situation could have been handled more professionally. I never received a response from corporate regarding this matter. Instead, I later received a phone call from the team lead at the location. During this call, the individual was visibly frustrated, hostile in tone, and unprofessional. No accountability was taken for the employee’s actions, nor was any attempt made to address my concerns constructively. This response further escalated the situation and reinforced my concerns regarding the lack of professionalism and customer care at this facility. Overall, repeated rent increases in a short timeframe, and refusal to provide reasonable accommodations have made this experience extremely disappointing and have raised concerns regarding fairness and transparency. BE AWARE!
